About the Teacher
Ms. O'Neill is a 1995 graduate of the University of Delaware. While attending the University she played Division I field hockey and earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. Upon graduation, she was hired to teach middle school Physical Education (P.E.) at Buck Lodge Middle School in Prince George's County. After two years of teaching, she enrolled part-time at Western Maryland College (re-named McDaniel College) where she earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science. She transferred to Howard County in 1997 and continued teaching middle school P.E. at Hammond Middle School. She was hired at Howard High School in 2006 to teach Health and Lifetime Fitness. During her time teaching, Ms. O'Neill began her coaching career with the Howard County Public School System. She was hired in 1997 to be an assistant softball coach at Centennial High School. The following year, she was hired as an assistant coach for the field hockey team at Centennial. After a few years as an assistant coach for both sports, Ms. O'Neill was hired to take over the junior varsity (jv) teams. In 2000, she was hired as an assitant varsity girls basketball coach at Atholton High School. In 2001, she was hired by Atholton High School to take over as the varsity field hockey coach. She continued with both programs until her hire at Howard High School in 2006 where she coached the varsity girls basketball team from 2006 - 2008. She is currently coaching the jv softball team as well as officiating field hockey at both the high school and collegiate levels.
Mission for the classes
The mission of the Health class is for
students to familiarize themselves with the content. Students should
be able to become more knowledgeable of the curriculum through a
variety of teaching methods. The class will also focus on decision
making skills as well as communication skills related to all topics.
The mission of the Aerobic Conditioning and Weight Training I and II class is to help students understand aerobic fitness concepts and proper nutrition. Students will participate in a variety of activities and will experience gains in muscular strength and endurance.
The mission of the Lifetime Fitness class is to provide students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to choose fitness - enhancing activities for a lifetime.
The mission of the Sport for Life class is to allow students the opportunity to experience team sports activities along with individual and dual sports activities. This course is a continuation of Lifetime Fitness.
